Dreamless
Jørgen Brekke
In 1767 a poor troubadour flees Stockholm after offending the daughter of one of the city’s mightiest men. That same year the naked, unidentified body of a man is found on the breakwater outside Trondheim. The Constable of Trondheim, the bulimic and cantankerous Nils Bayer, has a difficult case on his hands.
In the winter of 2011 a young woman is found murdered in Kuhaugen in Trondheim. The killer has removed the victim’s larynx and placed a music box that plays an unknown melody on top of the body. The woman had been missing for three weeks and Inspector Odd Singsaker has few leads to go on. When a sixteen-year-old girl disappears from her home, Singsaker fears that it is only a matter time before she, too, is found with a music box on her chest.
These crimes are committed nearly 250 years apart. But they appear to have one thing in common: a mysterious lullaby that promises eternal sleep.
Dreamless is Jørgen Brekke's sequel to the international success Realm of Grace (2011).
