Tall Snow

January 25, it is snowing heavily. The snowplough thunders down the narrow village roads, just outside of Drammen. Five year old Oda puts on her pink snowsuit and takes her toboggan out. She never returns for dinner, and there is no trace of her anywhere. Over at the neighbours’, adolescent Raimo jacks his mother’s car and drives over to his art teacher. He finds her strangled and presumably raped. But Raimo doesn’t tell anyone what he has seen.

What actually happened that afternoon?

Police detectives Bitte Røed and Verner Jacobsen begin the complicated procedure of questioning the residents of a small community. Everybody knows everybody, everybody knows something. And they all wish for more in their lives.

Critical Acclaim:

“Reiersgård’s debut novel displays a unusual elegance of style, and a consummate talent in the creation of a wide and complex web of intrigue that reveals itself in endless and surprising layers, worthy of a master.”
Kjetil Moe, Kulturspeilet

“Tall Snowmay be crime fiction, but has such depth, and strips it subjects so naked, that it also has something of the literary novel. I want more from Reiersgård’s pen, and I want it fast.”
Helge Kjøniksen, Moss Avis

“Fearlessly and at times disturbingly intimate, she lets the “camera” follow both her investigators, and those involved. A delicate balancing act, which Reiesgård handles masterfully in this book.”
Lars Nielsen, Bergens Tidene

“She manages to capture the strongest emotions and describes the most heartbreaking scenes, in ways that are wholly convincing.”
May Grete Lerum, VG

“The plot is complex and beautifully structured, with the tension built up around a small circle of people whom we follow and empathise with. The author has created a universe closely rooted in an everyday reality, in which many of us might recognise ourselves.”
Maria Årolilja Rø, Adressevisen

“A debutant crime fiction writer rarely delivers something as fresh and mouth-watering as Marit Reiersgård.”
Per-Magne Midjo, Trønderavisa

“To summarise: this is a stonkingly good debut crime novel with a sinister, shudder inducing atmosphere and extremely well crafted plot.”
Det Gode Liv

Tall Snow is one of the best Norwegian debuts I have read in a long time.”
Liv Lysaker, NJF Magasinet

“The plot is both intricate and well constructed. It is disturbingly and atmospherically crafted with an everyday lightness that increases the tension in this snowdrift. A new crime writer whom look forward to following.”
Anne Schäffer, Tara
