The Train from Ajaccio
Anne Oterholm
Sindre is travelling through Southern France accompanied by his sons: two children he never should have brought along on such an aimless trip. He encounters people who seem to become influenced by him, but they themselves have no influence whatsoever on his further progress. At home, Sindre´s second cousin Nora is writing his story. Sometimes she wishes and imagines that Sindre were her brother, yet at the same time she is in love with him. Who are they, Sindre and Nora?
In 1995 Anne Oterholm (born 1964 in the USA) was chosen as Debutant of the Year by the book club BNB. She has also been awarded Tanum´s stipend for female writers. Since 2005 she has been Chairman of the Norwegian Authors´ Union.
The author was recently awarded the Aschehoug Prize 2010, an annual prize confirming and highlighting the quality in a literary oevre by a contemporary Norwegian author. The winner is selected by the Norwegian Critics’ Association.
Praise
“Anne Oterholm´s language is selective, reflected and precise, even when she relays rough everyday speech.”
